Sidewalk Sunday School

An Outreach Community Ministry of New Beginning Ministry, Inc. Our Mission to go preach, teach what God commands, and make disciples of all nations.

Sidewalk Sunday School ("SSS") is a unique outreach ministry of New Beginning Ministry, Inc. in partnership with First Baptist Church of Winter Park.  It is a "ministry on wheels" utilizing a specifically modified and equipped truck to reach and minister to the impoverished children and their families who are currently residing in Central Florida communities.

SSS’s leadership is Pedro and Rosa Marti, former residents of Brooklyn, New York.  While in New York, Pedro and Rosa were active with Metro Ministries, now Metro World Child, established in 1980 by Pastor Bill Wilson. Metro Ministries has grown to become America’s largest Sunday School, serving over 20,000 children in New York City alone and over 200,000 world wide.  Pedro and Rosa Marti came to know the Lord, in a profound and life-changing way, through the street presentations presented by Metro Ministries.  SSS incorporates many of the fundamental, time-tested and Christ-centered methods of such ministry, adapting them to the needs and challenges of our local communities.

SSS is a fast-paced, high impact 90-minute weekly program occurring outdoors at various locations, including Saturday afternoon presentations at the Reeves Terrace public housing community.  It employs music, worship songs, skits and object lessons (short theatrical acts), puppets, games, snacks, prizes, student participation, and just plain love to deliver intense and life-changing messages concerning the grace of Jesus Christ. The lessons include salvation through Jesus Christ, uniqueness in Christ, and God's plan and love for each child. We emphasize the importance of staying in school and remaining drug-free.  These presentations are made possible through the assistance of volunteers. The ministry believes that for the message of Jesus Christ to truly take hold, meaningful relationships must be established with children and families.  SSS leaders and volunteers freely give the Gospel of Christ to anyone who will receive it!

We believe that there are a great need and an opportunity to share the message of Jesus Christ in our local communities, particularly amongst our most socially and economically disadvantaged children and families. As these children and families might otherwise have little opportunity to hear the message of Christ or attend regular church services, SSS proactively brings such message, in an active, fun, meaningful and life-changing way, to these individuals in their very neighborhoods.  The mission of SSS is to bring these communities something different than all that surrounds them on a daily basis, we try to touch the deepest parts of their hearts with the transforming Gospel of Jesus Christ!

SSS also participates in a basketball ministry for older teenage boys.  Through this ministry, our young men can develop and demonstrate their athletic abilities, learn discipline in a team setting, and most importantly hear the Word of God.

Pedro and Rosa Marti are "street smart" champions for the Lord Jesus Christ, fearless to enter and work in even the "toughest" of neighborhoods.  Their dedication to the Lord is most evident through their tireless service in SSS.

"Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the aliens living in your towns—so they can listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land . . . "

Deuteronomy 31:12-13 (NIV)

SSS is in need of volunteers to help every single week.  Look at your hands can they distribute candy to attentive participants; can you pray for children who come forward to receive Christ; can you take pictures; can you sit with children or even help with praise and worship, or with games?  Can you officiate basketball games, serve as a scorekeeper or present a brief biblical message to teenage boys?

"Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest?  Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together."  John 4:35-36 (KJV)

Please check your calendars. Make plans to give God 90 minutes of your time.
